The Financial District is one of the best neighborhoods to explore on your last day in New York City. Wall Street, the 9/11 Memorial, historic churches and New York Harbor are all within a compact section of Lower Manhattan.

Start at Wall Street

Even a short visit offers a quieter side of Lower Manhattan. Walk respectfully through the grounds and notice how the church remains tucked between office buildings.

Walk to the Charging Bull and The Battery

Head south along Broadway toward Bowling Green and the Charging Bull. The sculpture is a popular photo stop, so take your picture and continue if the crowd is large.

From there, walk to The Battery at Manhattan’s southern tip. The waterfront park offers views of New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Watch the ferries, sit near the water or walk past Castle Clinton. A trip to the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island can take several hours, so save it for a late flight.

Have Lunch Near Stone Street

After the waterfront, head toward Stone Street.

Its narrow layout, historic buildings and outdoor restaurant seating feel very different from the towers nearby. During warm weather, the street becomes especially lively.

Stone Street also shows why the Financial District is easier without suitcases. Uneven paving and tight seating can make luggage difficult to manage.

Choose One Final Attraction

If you still have time, choose either the 9/11 Memorial or One World Observatory.

The outdoor 9/11 Memorial is free to visit and offers a place for quiet reflection. The museum requires more time, so save it for a less rushed day.

One World Observatory is a strong choice when you want a final panoramic view of New York. Reserve a timed ticket and leave enough room for security and airport travel.

Before leaving, walk through the Oculus. Its bright, ribbed interior is worth seeing even if you do not plan to shop.

Plan Around Your Flight

With three hours, visit Wall Street, Trinity Church, the Charging Bull and The Battery. With four to six hours, add lunch near Stone Street and either the 9/11 Memorial or One World Observatory.
